About the artist:

Sarah Struthers (they/them) is a queer and non-binary theatre maker, visual artist, and aspiring set and costume designer.

They are a graduate of the University of Winnipeg’s Theatre and Film Program, specializing in Devised Theatre Research and Creation.

Sarah is a sentimental collector who uses collage as a tool for collaboration. Sourcing found images and text from the world and piecing them together in visual media or performance art.

Sarah’s work as a self-taught visual artist began in 2020 during the summer of the pandemic. They began creating analog collage pieces from their dad’s old collection of National Geographic magazines. Sarah was drawn to the hands-on method of collage for its playful and tactile form. Finding books, collecting pieces, rearranging items, and assembling them all together in one cohesive image are key components in Sarah’s artistic process. Beyond collage, Sarah’s work as visual artist also expands into multimedia sculpture and fiber arts.

Sarah works as a theatre educator at Manitoba Theatre for Young People, is a weekly volunteer at Art City, and is a board member with Young Lungs Dance Exchange, a local nonprofit organization that is supporting artist development in contemporary dance and performance.
